Justin Bieber – One Less Lonely Star

While most seventeen year olds are worrying about the ACT and their senior year of high school, Justin Bieber is taking over the world of pop music with his tales of puppy love, heartbreak, and never saying never. Justin was born in Canada and took a vested interest in many hobbies including soccer, chess, and hockey. However, his true passion became music when he taught himself to play piano, drums, and guitar. His mother had a big hand in the launch of his career by posting videos of Justin singing and playing instruments on YouTube. While this was originally just something to show family and friends, eventually the YouTube videos gained popularity and soon Justin was discovered by his now manager Scooter Braun.  After being discovered by Braun, Justin was signed to Braun and Usher Raymond’s record label as well as L.A. Reid’s label Island Records. Usher has served as a mentor and inspiration to Justin and has influenced his sound and dance moves.

His career has really taken off with the release of his second album entitled “My World 2.0.” His first single off the album “Baby” hit number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart making it his highest chart position yet. Since then, Justin has performed on a variety of shows including Saturday Night Live. Justin headlined his first tour in June of 2010 causing hysteria for young girls across the nation. During his concerts Justin plays a variety of instruments, shows off his hip-hop dance moves, and makes the young girls go crazy.

While many girls, did not get to see his concert live, they were in luck in February 2011, when Justin released his 3-D concert “Never Say Never.” The 3-D concert extravaganza made over $30 million dollars its opening weekend.

Justin Bieber is a cultural phenomenon. In fact, many people say they suffer from “Bieber Fever” including the likes of: Rhianna, Taylor Swift, Diddy, Kim Kardashian, and Drake. For fans, it isn’t just about his music; it’s the whole package. The package including the signature hairstyle (popular amongst many young teenage boys), his love of the color purple, and for the moms…his is squeaky-clean image. Only time will tell in terms of his staying power. Will Justin be another flash in the pan young male pop star? Or, will he make a seamless transition to adult superstardom like the other Justin (Timberlake)?
