From Loading Trucks To Loading Tracks

If you are one of the few who have just caught the phenomenon known as Owl City, you might have wondered who the people are behind this band. As surprising as it may seem to some, there is actually no band to speak of. This is because Owl City is composed of only one man, and that man happens to be Adam Young.

Owl City is actually the name of the musical project started by Adam Young. Prior to his success as a musician, Adam Young actually works loading Coca Cola products on delivery trucks. It was during one of those insomnia-inducing nights that he started to compose songs. At first, his compositions where just published in MySpace which proved to be quite a useful site as it gained Young his first fanbase. His great skill as a singer as well as a songwriter coupled with his personalized approached to his fans has caused his fanbase to steadily increase in number. By 2007, not only was he selling thousands of tracks over at iTunes, he was also able to release an EP with the title, “Of June”. The said EP was re-released under Universal Republic in 2010 after Young’s second album, “Ocean Eyes” proved to be a smashing hit. “Of June” peaked at number 15 of the US Billboard Dance/ Electronica Albums for 2007. One of the most notable tracks in the said album is “Good Time” which Adam Young did with singer Carly Rae Jepsen of the “Call Me Maybe” popularity. Just a short while after its release, “Good Time” was able to achieve Platinum certification and has consistently defended its spot in the Billboard Hot 100.

Owl City“Ocean Eyes”, on the other hand, was released in 2009. Three singles from the said album was officially released by Owl City. These were, “Umbrella Beach,” “Vanilla Twilight”, and “Fireflies”. It was the last track that was able to dominate the US and the Canadian music charts of that time. By 2011, the said track was able to claim the title of being teh 20th most downloaded song of all time. The album itself was able to secure a place in the top ten US charts and dominated the US electronic charts. As a downloadable track, it was able to reach Amazon’s top 10 most downloadable mp3s.

Around 2010, Owl City began the work for his third album entitled, “All Things Bright and Beautiful“. The said album contained such tracks as “Alligator Sky”, which also happened to be the lead track’ “Galaxies”, and “Deer in the Headlights”.

Just last August 2012, Owl City has launched his latest full-length album under the Republic Records entitled, “The Midsummer Station”. He is set to perform in various areas next year starting on February for his 2013 North American Tour as part of his promotion of The Midsummer Station. Along with the announcement of the 2013 North American Tour, Owl City has also started the release of his second track, “Shooting Star”. The video for the said song is expected to be released with the year.
