Kevin Garnett is Boston Celtics’ Most Important Player in the Playoffs

Boston Celticshad a breath of new life during the second half of the season and one of the reasons for it is Kevin Garnett. In the playoffs, KG is once again playing out of his mind. During their First Round series versus the Atlanta Hawks, Garnett had his way inside the paint en route to averaging a double-double. In their current Semifinals series versus the Philadelphia 76ers, Garnett is even better than what he showed versus the Hawks. Owners of Boston Celtics tickets definitely like what they see from their future Hall of Famer.

Garnett, 36, is in his 17th season in the National Basketball Association and has played more than 50,000 minutes throughout his career. But the way he has been playing in recent months make Boston fans believe that they can still win it all with him leading the way despite all the mileage in his legs.

During their First Round series matchup against Atlanta, Garnett averaged 18.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.3 steals on 51 percent shooting in six games. In the series clinching win in Game 6, Garnett had his best game of the series going for 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks in 53 percent shooting from the field. In this Semifinal matchup versus the Sixers, the former MVP is putting up 20 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.3 steals on 56 percent shooting through four games. After that big Game 6 versus the Hawks, KG followed it up with 29-11 (points and rebounds), 15-12, and 27-13 performances in Games 1-3.  KG had a stinker in Game 4 versus Philadelphia going 3 for 12 en route to 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 turnovers game.

With the way Garnett has been playing in recent weeks (except for the Game 4 loss), this begs a question on who is the best center today. And the answer is NONE. He is definitely been better than any pivot man in recent months and it also helps that Dwight Howard got sidelined last month. Garnett is a natural power forward and is one of the best in this position in the history of the game but had to play center when Jermaine O’Neal was sidelined. Ever since that shift, Garnett’s game got rejuvenated, which resulted to the Celtics being able to snag the fourth seed.

The Associated Press

As the trend for Boston in recent months goes, when Garnett plays well, the Celtics win and the Game 4 loss proved it. Garnett definitely had a rough game in the pivotal Game 4. He had to labor for his 9 points while shooting 25 percent from the field. He was also very careless with the ball committing four less turnovers than the entire Sixers had (11) during the game. Boston had the win in their grasp but a collapse late in the game plus Garnett’s poor game doomed their chance of going up 3-1 in the series.
