The Saga of Jesus Shuttlesworth

If you have been living under the rock, or simply do no concern yourself too much with TV, then you would probably have no idea who Jesus Shuttlesworth is.

Jesus Shuttlesworth happens to be a fictional character in the movie, “He Got Game“, a movie released in 1998 focusing on the father-son relationship between Jake Shuttlesworth and Jesus Shuttlesworth. Cast in the role of the father was Denzel Washington while current Miami Heat player Ray Allen took the role of Jesus Shuttlesworth. The said role was offered to a number of basketball players although most of them turned it down due to conflicts with schedule. In the movie, Jake was a convicted prisoner charged with killing his wife. Being the father of one of the top-tanked basketball prospect in the county, he was given by the governor a week’s parole release in order to convince his son to play for the governor’s alma mater. In exchange for Jesus’ playing for the alma mater, Jake would be given a significantly reduced sentence.

Although Allen was new to the world of acting, critics have found him to be quite suited for the role, so much so that the movie was able to get an 80% favorable response from such websites as the Rotten Tomatoes. Allen, most especially, received much of the praises due to his alertness and actual connection to the character he is playing. It also helps that he had some of the best actors in the world around him. If there is one thing that can be said against the movie, it is that there are some parts that tend to be quite dragging. The movie was able to debut at number 1 in the US and was able to earn a total gross sales of $21,554,585.

Today, Ray Allen might be more into shooting hoops rather than making movies. Although he has considerably grown professionally, the fire within him seems to have diminished very little over the years. After having given the Celtics management a piece of his mind, most people were actually waiting for him to fall flat on his face. After all, him leaving the Celtics can be seen as something that only a turncoat who has no loyalty to his team would do.

Well, surprise! Surprise! Miami Heat might have a sixth sense when it took Ray Allen. Although he had a substantial cut in what he would be getting, Allen’s transfer to the Heat has actually made him shine even more. Although tension filled the air when the Celtics came against the Heat, it was clear that the latter had the upper hand.
