New York Islandersis one of two professional National Hockey League (NHL) teams from the state of New York. The Islanders has the upper hand in terms of total Stanley Cups and Conference Championships combined with 10. For the current season though, the Islanders is dead last in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division with a record of 7 wins, 11 losses and 4 overtime losses. NY Islanders last qualified for a playoff spot way back in the 2006-2007 season when they were the eight seed. Since then, the team has finished last in their division.

The Islanders opened their season with a 2-0 loss at the hands of Florida Panthers. It was followed with three straight wins over Minnesota Wild, Tampa Bay Lightning and Rangers. After the three consecutive wins, the Islanders lost 13 of their next 16 games highlighted by six-game losing streaks and two separate four-game losing skids. During that stretch, they lost an average of almost three points a contest. Currently, they have a two-game winning streak dumping the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres.
Their upcoming game would be against the number one team in the Central Division, the Chicago Blackhawks (14-8-3).
This year has been another struggle for the boys of Uninondale, New York statistically. They are 30th overall in goals per game with 2.0, 24th in allowed goals with 3.1, 20th in power play percentage and 19thin penalty kill percentage with 81.

The Islanders is 28th in total points with 18 in the entire NHL. Out of 18 points, 12 of these points were scored at home which is 21st overall. Their total points scored on the road is 29th overall which shows their struggle scoring away from home. NY Islanders’ .409 winning percentage is 27th in the whole league, edging Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Playing at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the NY Islanders have a record of 5 wins, 6 losses and 2 overtime losses. On the road, they are currently 2-5-2.
The Islanders has played their last two games on the road and will be playing their next two on the road as well. Other games in the said home stretch are against the Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Perhaps the struggle of the Islanders can be attributed to the injury on some of its players. Mark Eaton is currently at the injured reserve list with a strained medial collateral ligament (MCL), Evgeni Nabokov with a groin injury and Mark Katic with a dislocated left shoulder. The return of these players is still unknown. Jay Pandolfor is currently listed as day-to-day with a broken foot.
